On Becoming a People’s College: Placemaking as Hidden Curriculum

This research was originally presented as a chapter in the doctoral dissertation On Becoming People’s College: An Appreciative Inquiry. Inquiry (Ai) is participatory approach to organizational change focused on an affirmative topic choice. The choice of equity, democracy, and justice at selected site. article shares motivations relevant characteristics chosen fieldwork site, De Anza College. Three categories considerations for role place placemaking within institution’s hidden curriculum are described: institutional identities, features, resource scarcity. These followed by discussion levers enhancing curriculum: prefigurative politics, creativity, Anchor Institution approach.
